The Beijing Axis Manufacturing Indaba Exporting to China & Asia Workshop

JOHANNESBURG – 20 June 2018 – The Beijing Axis hosted a workshop on “Exporting to China & Asia: International Market Opportunities for South African Manufacturers”. The event was supported by Siyenza and co-located with the annual Manufacturing Indaba at the Sandton Convention Centre in Gauteng, South Africa.

Geared for South African manufacturers who are interested in growing their exports and global footprint, the seminar provided an overview of the China & Asia market, the opportunity for South African companies, and issues, risks and critical success factors inherent to this undertaking.

Mr. Kobus van der Wath, Founder and Group Managing Director of Axis Group International / The Beijing Axis, warmly welcomed the attendees and provided an overview of what the attendees can expect from the session.

Mr. Muziwethu Mathema, Group Executive: Trade and Investment Regulatory Enablement Division of the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA), kicked off the session with an introduction of the GGDA and the agency’s interest in promoting exports amongst local companies.

Mr. van der Wath then got the workshop underway by providing an economic overview of the Asian region, with a special emphasis on China. He elaborated on the market development and export opportunities in China / Asia, and paid special attention to the hot sectors where South Africa is particularly competitive in.

Ms. Barbie H. Co, Director: Sales Activation of The Beijing Axis, unpacked key themes and challenges in doing marketing and brand activation in China and the greater Asian region. She highlighted the importance of doing one’s homework and understanding the local market that one is targeting, as well as the importance of perception and storytelling in crafting one’s marketing strategy.

Ms. Rachel Wu, Director of The Beijing Axis, offered valuable insights into the psyche of the Chinese consumer, based on China’s underlying culture and development, as well as her personal opinion as a part of a specific Chinese consumer demographic. She further expounded on the various issues, risks and critical success factors that foreign companies may face in trying to crack the Chinese market.

The session ended with the attendees directly engaging with the speakers, asking interesting questions and sharing their Asia experiences.
