BEIJING – 16 November 2017 – The Beijing Axis hosted the South Africa Inc Luncheon on Thursday, November 16, at the Library Room of The Capital Club in Beijing. Her Excellency Ambassador Dolana Msimang of the Republic of South Africa attended as the Guest of Honour.

The luncheon kicked off with Kobus van der Wath, Founder & Group Managing Director of The Beijing Axis, welcoming the group.

Ambassador Msimang imparted some key messages on the importance of China-South Africa relations, and talked about the upcoming celebration of 20 years of diplomatic relations between China and South Africa next year, as well as the celebration of Nelson Mandela’s centenary in 2018.

Jeremy Stevens, Economist from Standard Bank, provided a brief China economic update of what has happened throughout the year and predictions for the following year.

Bradley Brouwer, Regional Manager Asia Pacific of South Africa Tourism, introduced a new partnership between Standard Bank, South African Tourism and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), which is expected to benefit both Chinese tourists travelling to South Africa and South African tourists travelling to China.

Botlhale Seageng, Analyst from The Beijing Axis, gave a brief overview on a new initiative that TBA is embarking on – assisting South African students in China with practical skills learning and on-the-job training.

The event was attended by representatives from the South African Embassy, Distell, Sinosure, and Old Mutual, among others. Participants are largely from South African companies or with some kind of South Africa link.

The SA Inc Luncheon is an informal forum, which serves to gather the South African business community together to discuss the current condition of South Africa-China relations, to examine the state of the Chinese economy and to do some networking.
